MARCH 12 CAR

LAST month’s 12 car was back on map 93 although a set of different roads were used, at one point going off the map and onto a photocopy provided. Eight crews set off for the last 12 car of the season. A crew missing was Gav and Mike when both of the crew were unwell although Mike did manage to make it to do course closer with Jess. Mind when Mike offered Jess a ‘run out in the country’ I’m not sure she knew what she was in for.

 A loop around Ingleby caught Dave and Mike T out. Wrong slotting they ended up crossing a ford (and bloody deep it was) then along a heavily rutted white grounding the Corsa. A quick check at TC1 showed no sign of damage, but they missed a board.     Mark R swapped his usual navigator Andy C for dad Martin C and immediately got it wrong when they turned right at the start instead of left.

 After TC1 at Carlton the crews were sent to Swainby and TC2 at a rarely used layby. With only nine minutes to do it in there was no hanging around.

At the Tontine the crews crossed!!! the A19 down a single track road that was like ice with the gravel and the next 3 miles was interesting to say the least.  The roads around East Cowton, West Harsley and Appleton Wiske are classic 12 car roads with plenty to test the navigator and driver alike.

  The last section was a series of black spots that gave you the correct route and Rods smilling face at a secret check. The final 90 right that led to the final TC was missed by most crews initially with the cry of  “we should be down there” from the navigators.

 At the finish venue, The Dog and Gun, we were treated to sandwiches and roasties and as usual plenty of talk about the event. Another great event on little used roads.
