        LANGBAURGH KARTING

Although not officially a motor club event, over 20 members attended a wet Motorsport Park Track for an hours karting. We were on the longer  International track that takes in the back of the circuit and the hill section. What it also means is that you arrive at the ‘esses’ flat out making life      interesting trying to brake for the hairpin.

26 karts left the start all heading for the downhill left hander before the tightening right at the bottom of the hill. In the wet/damp conditions it was never going to work and there was karts all over the place. With understeer a big problem there were some interesting lines through the bends. Battles infield were aplenty and  ‘Stretchy’ sportingly!!! waved Mike Scrim passed, then when he was alongside pushed him onto the grass, somehow Mike kept control and both ended up covered in mud. At the head of the field Ryan fought off John and Al Mac, and even a 2 pronged attack by them both could not stop Ryan taking the spoils. Spins and crashes were the order of the day for most. Andrew C forced off the track had the kart a 1’ off the ground and himself a 1’ above that when he hit the rumble strip and our  chairman losing control on the flat out long right hander at the top of the circuit, hitting the tyre wall when the grass failed to slow him. As he thought to himself, “bugger this is going to hurt “ he wasn't disappointed.

A great morning was had by all with all on track battles forgotten in the bar after the event.

                           MARCH 12 CAR

The last of the seasons 12 car was organised by Ian and Kurt. Starting from the trading estate at Stokesley and finishing at the Dog and Gun, Potto where we were fed with Toad in the Hole and roast spuds. All curtosy of the pub which was very well received.

The 50 mile route was broken into 5 sections with a secret check thrown in.

Navigation was fairly straightforward over the relatively short sections. Map 93 has some great 12 car roads, tight and twisty then long hedge covered strait sections.

On the 1st section the chairman was explaining to his navigator, Mike T about how you should never follow other cars if you think they are right and you are wrong, “always trust in your navigation”, 5 mins later as they went through Hutton Rudby he followed the cars in front totally disregarding Mike’s call. 2 mile later he swung the car around and followed the route Mike had said in the 1st place. 5 mins of grovelling followed. Nice one Dave!

At the finish, which all 11 crews made, everyone had enjoyed the different roads and dry conditions.
