March Autotest Birkbecks Rally School
The second Autotest of the year took place at the Rallyschool with an extremely good entry of 15.
Alan Hick had put together 4 separate tests, with each 1 run twice. The usual array of cars were there from rally cars to road cars to stripped down specials and even a white van. The rallyschool is a cracking place for an autotest with long flowing tests run on tarmac and gravel.A strong cold wind blew but didn’t seem to dampen spirits.
Stretchy borrowed Dave Pearson’s MK2 and really put it through its paces, if there had been a prize for ‘best entertainment’ he would have won it. We nearly had our first ‘Roll Over Award’ contender when J.J nearly put the White van on its side. Kurt spent most of the day trying to find reverse in the ‘borrowed’ MK2, while at the head of the field Kev and Ryan ( in the ‘1 lady owner’ Rover) fought for top honours.Young Ashley Slights came up from York with dad Pete sat beside him. A final test that was ‘Death or Glory’ saw his normal tidy driving go to the wall but a very creditable 6th place was his result.
Kev and Ryan were neck and neck after 6 but a 5s penalty on 7 saw Ryan lose the event when he touched a tyre. He lost to Kev by 4 s.
A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
