January 12 car

The first 12 car of the year got underway from the Eskdale Pub in Castleton. 11 (I think) crews set off towards Danby and a ‘dash’ across the Danby White. In a slight change to the normal procedure the crews were given sealed envelopes with the clues for the next section only to be opened at the respective control. Unfortunately 2 crews left without them and the start marshall was dispatched to TC 1 near the moors road to give them out.

At Croft in December Gemma Bellingham drove a rally car for the first time in anger, this would be chicken feed to what was about to confront her on her 1st 12 car. With Kev Luxmore sat next to her the pressure was on. Last years novice champions Steve and Josh were now ‘experts’ and in a Skoda bought off e.bay only hours earlier they were now mixing it with the ‘big boys’. Unfortunately the Danby White was less than kind to the car and by the finish they had a wrecked front strut and 2 shredded tyres. The journey back home would be on the back of a breakdown truck. Things can only get better.

Everybody made it to the end 1 way or another,  and all the novices managed to get to the end within the allotted time (well nearly) even though they only got their clues at the start of each section. (normal service will be resumed on February’s).

Not surprisingly Andy and Paul won the event with Ryan and JJ winning the novice class.

 Autotest. Caedmon School, Whitby.

You know you’ve seen something special when a new member  to the club, and a junior at that, wins an Autotest by over a minute, and wins 9 of the 12 tests.
And what’s more the 3 he failed to win were won by his sister.
New members Ashley and Emma Slights wrote there way into the Whitby DMC history with a stunning show of car control, and after taking the lead on test 1, Ashley never looked back.
Driving his self prepared Mini he showed a maturity well above his 15 years and ended the day with a time of 610.4 secs followed home by Emma on 674.9.
The ‘old school’ managed to take 3rd place, Alan Hick drove the Peugeot to complete a Novice top 3.
Kev (I’m having a blond moment) Luxmore trailed down in 4th.

5th place went to organiser Martin Cockerill who for some reason set tests that did not suit the Meastro?

Andrew Cockerill and Steve ( I’ve got an excuse for every test) Kent failed to finish after quote: ”Kenty broke it”.
