February 12 Car

TEN crews turned up for signing on at The Dudley Arms with a start down the road near Battersby  Junction. The 50 odd mile route circled around Stokesley and Hutton Rudby. MTC1 to TC2 took crews through Little Ayton, Eric at a secret check at  Tunstall, Maltby, Seamer and Hutton Rudby to Neil at TC 2 just over the A19 near Crathorne.   A miss-typed grid reference blackspot resulted in crews missing a loop and a code board on the Seamer Grange Farm road. Apologies to everyone especially Ian and Nick who were waiting near the farm to do a secret check and saw nobody !

TC2 to TC 3 had route notes not in order which caused most crews problems resulting in a number of fails for approaching WD to Rod near Potto Hall. The route should have taken crews through Picton, Appleton Wiske, West Rounton, East Rounton over the A19 via the new bridge, Potto Hall crossroads, Hutton Rudby and Potto back to the crossroads.

TC3 to MTC 2 was via Shepherds Hill, Facby, Kirkby and Great Broughton to myself at the entrance to the Dudley car park.

Some of these route notes were subject to a number of debates at the finish.  Results were in the Dudley arms where chips, baked onions and dips were provided, thanks to Bob for organising the food and the event.

Unluckiest crew were Clair and Steve. Approaching Seamer they were blinded by an oncoming car, didn’t see a pothole and punctured. They limped into Seamer to change the puncture only to find that their spare was U/S. A quick phone call brought Steve’s brother to the rescue. Realising they had lost so much time they cut straight to MTC 2 to be still classified in the results.

 Thanks to all competitors, all marshals and Ian – Nick for sorting out the results.

On a personal note it was my first time on the organising side, thanks to everyone who helped and guided me. I certainly learnt a lot especially to make sure I collect the right amount of entry fees!
