MACKS SOLICITORS AUTOTEST TOUR

 

This years 'Tour' consisted of an autosolo on grass and a barbeque on Saturday night followed by the proper Tour on Sunday.

Saturday night was a purely social night, a few beers, a barbie and an Autosolo. 10 competitors paid a fiver each with all the money going towards the cash prize. 3 tests were planned with the fastest time taking the money. 8 tests later and we had a winner. Paul Metcalf in the Mini ran away with it after the leading contenders Pete and Dave Scrim fell by the wayside. But the night was all about having a laugh and we did that all right.   

 

 

Sunday dawned bright and a bit too early. 16 entries for the day, a few down on expected numbers but not a problem.

 Caedmon School saw the 1st set of tests and already the stage was set, Ashley Slights would be the lad to beat. Neil and Martin in the Mini and JJ in the Fiesta would have other ideas though.

 By the end of the Mart, Ashley held a small lead from JJ, Neil and Martin with Kev leading the RWD class.

 By the 2nd Harrisons test Neil held a 1 sec lead from Ashley after a disastrous test from JJ dropped him 4 places. By the end of the 4th test at Harrisons, Neil held Ashley by 1 sec but Phil Mayne had crept up to 3rd. Next came the Road and the end of the road for Phil when the mini dropped a bearing. The road would change everything and by the end of the 2nd run Ashley held an 11 sec lead over Neil.

 With 4 tests on the Field would he keep his nerve.

Neil fought back and with 1 test to go the lead was down to 3 secs. On the final test Ashley was last to run and as he approached the line he locked up the wheels on the Mini and slid across the line, an overshoot would lose him the Tour. He grabbed reverse and stopped the back wheels millimetres from the line. After 16 tests he had won by 2 secs. Hollywood couldnt have written a better ending.

Kev Luxmore won RWD class but for sheer crowd pleasing, Andy Drimmie threw the big Beemer estate around like a man possesed.
