Welcome to the Whitby & District Motor Club

The inaugural meeting of Whitby and District Motor Club took place on the 20th of January 1969 at the Metropole Hotel in Whitby. The first senior officials were Mr W.Headlam (President); Alan Marshall (Chairman); and David Peel (Secretary)

Initially formal meetings were held at the Shipyard Club in Whitby, but the Bunch of Grapes at Scaling became the regular home for the club in April 1969. By the early 1970's the club was annually organising restricted rallies ( the Semperit Tyres and Pathfinder rally) and an autocross, as well as regular internal events, autotests, PCT's etc.  By 1972 the club was a member of the A.N.C.C and A.N.E.C.C regional associations by February 1973 the Wilson Arms at Sneaton became the formal meeting place.

In 1984 the club pioneered the use of Olivers Mount in Scarborough for a single venue rally and the Butterwick Road Rally was held for the first time, named in memory of Alan Butterwick, who was President of the club for many years.   The 1990's saw the club increase its number of competitors and to date we have a solid base of drivers, navigators and service personnel who regularly compete from single venue events up to WRC status events.

2009 saw the clubs initial running of the Rally Time Trial, held at Birkbecks RallySchool. The event for drivers only see's it grow each year in popularity.

The club also boasts a large number of people who marshal regularly all over the U.K and Ireland, and also has a vast depth of personnel with time keeping experience. We are often asked to run stages or assist other club's on larger events.

Meetings are now held at Birkbeck's International Rally School at Brotton on the 3rd Monday of every month. Please click here for directions
